Dollar Holds Firm as Fed Signals Prolonged Restrictive Policy

The US dollar held its ground against major peers as Federal Reserve officials reinforced their commitment to keeping rates elevated through the third quarter.

The US dollar held firm against its major peers as Federal Reserve officials used recent commentary to underline a simple message: policy will stay restrictive until inflation is convincingly back at target. With no near-term cut on the table, the greenback has retained a structural bid on dips.

Yields anchor the move

The dollar's resilience is rooted in the rates market. The 10-year Treasury yield is trading around 4.48%, and front-end yields remain elevated as traders price out the prospect of imminent easing. That yield advantage continues to make the dollar attractive against lower-yielding currencies.

Euro fades from its highs

EUR/USD tells the story from the other side. The pair reached a high near 1.1798 in early May before momentum faded, slipping back below 1.1700 by mid-month and now changing hands around 1.1637. The euro remains higher over a twelve-month horizon, but the near-term bias has tilted lower as the Fed-ECB policy gap reasserts itself.

For traders, the dollar's path of least resistance remains higher while the Fed holds the line. Rallies in risk-sensitive currencies are likely to be sold into unless incoming US data softens materially.
